Employee Involvement & Volunteerism
Our employees are passionate about giving back to their communities, and we support their efforts through volunteer opportunities and charitable-giving programs. Throughout 2025, we worked to combine our Benevity employee volunteerism and giving platforms. In 2026, the unified platform will bring together volunteer and giving opportunities, as well as unified reporting. This approach will make it easier for employees to engage with causes they care about and track the collective impact of our workforce.
Alaska & Hawaiian Week of Care Highlights
Each October, we host our Week of CARE, a company-wide week focused on uplifting our local communities through volunteer events with community partners around the country.

- Alaska: The purpose of Week of CARE in Alaska was to fight hunger across the state, where one in eight Alaskans is food insecure. Twenty-nine employees from across three communities volunteered their time to pack food boxes that were delivered or picked up by families in need. Employees also sorted food that was distributed to smaller partner food banks. Organizations that benefitted include the Food Bank of Alaska, Fairbanks Community Food Bank and Southeast Alaska Food Bank.
- California: To deepen our connection with local food banks across California and demonstrate our commitment to supporting food-insecure families and community partners throughout the state, 62 employees volunteered across five food banks statewide, sorting over 70,000 pounds of food. Organizations that benefited include SF-Marin Food Bank, Alameda County Community Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, San Diego Food Bank and USP 29 Palms Marine Base.
- Hawai‘i: Team Kōkua supported Hawai‘i Land Trust, an organization dedicated to acquiring lands in Hawai‘i for perpetual preservation. Rooted in mālama ‘āina, each site offered a unique perspective on land management – from fishpond restoration to coastal management and beyond – as well as activities that allowed employees to give back to the land for what it continues to provide to us, both physically and mentally. It was an excellent opportunity to connect old and new colleagues by working alongside one another.
- Washington: Our Seattle area employees are very involved in the community and engaged with longtime partners during Week of CARE. In 2025, our employees volunteered across the city with longtime nonprofit partners including Mary’s Place, Junior Achievement, the Woodland Park Zoo and Forterra.
- Portland: Volunteers joined forces to make a meaningful impact with two important partners, the Oregon Zoo and Milk Crate Kitchen. We worked with the Zoo’s horticulture team to enhance the grounds for guests and also the habitat for animals. The Oregon team also strengthened community connections by providing restaurant-quality meals to those experiencing food insecurity in partnership with the Milk Crate Kitchen.

Supporting Local Food Banks
A popular annual tradition, Pack the Plane engages employees from across our entire organization in supporting local food banks. Pack the Plane first began in 2009 after stations across our network came together to host a food drive where they "virtually" filled an entire plane with donated canned goods and then donated those goods to local food banks. Over the past 11 years, we've raised more than $1.4 million and donated more than 100,000 pounds of canned goods to food banks across the country.

Recognizing Employees
Recognizing those who give back reinforces what we stand for. When our employees embody our shared values of doing the right thing and being kind-hearted, we want to celebrate it.
- Community Care Award — The peer-nominated Community CARE Award recognizes the passion-fueled people who devote time, energy and talents to charitable causes.
- Team Kōkua Award — For the first time this year, Hawaiian Airlines employees who dedicated the most volunteer hours through Team Kōkua earned the Team Kōkua Award. As a mahalo for their service to the company and community, each recipient received $1,000 to support a charitable organization of their choosing.
