We define ecosystems as interconnected systems that make up the places where we live, travel and operate. Protecting these ecosystems, championing responsible tourism and supporting local supply chains are key to the long-term sustainability of these destinations and our business.
Balancing Water Consumption
For five consecutive years, Alaska and Horizon have balanced our facility water footprint through our partnership with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF). In 2025, we balanced our water footprint through an investment in Washington's Icicle Creek water rights program, a project rooted in genuine ecological restoration. By restoring stream flows, it supports endangered spring Chinook salmon, threatened bull trout and steelhead and the critically endangered Southern Resident orcas that depend on these fish to survive. The effort brings together the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, the Yakama Nation, federal, state and local agencies, agricultural water users and environmental groups around a shared vision for a healthier Icicle Creek.
Beyond Icicle Creek, in 2025 we funded restoration work across the Pacific Northwest, including:
- The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership planted 47,625 trees as part of ongoing salmon recovery efforts.
- The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde planted 40,000 trees at their Chahalpam floodplain property in Oregon — a 429-acre site whose name means "place of the Santiam Kalapuya people" — restoring habitat with deep cultural significance.
- The Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians received capacity support and equipment for their riparian stewardship program in Puget Sound, and Salmon Defense received support for their Salmon Warriors campaign, engaging the public in salmon restoration and protection.
We've set a 2030 goal to balance all our water consumption across all Alaska Air Group operations — expanding this commitment beyond Alaska and Horizon facilities to include Hawaiian Airlines and our broader flight operations.
Promoting Regenerative Tourism
Hawaiian Airlines promotes sustainable and thoughtful tourism through its "Travel Pono" initiative. This program, which encourages guests to "explore with care" and kōkua (help) protect Hawai‘i’s natural resources, culture and communities, is crucial in educating millions of visitors on how to enjoy the islands and have a positive impact. Our commitment remains focused on advancing a more sustainable and equitable tourism economy that enriches the lives of the people of Hawai‘i, safeguards the state’s natural assets and improves overall quality of life.
Responsible Sourcing & Supply Chain Resilience
Our approach to responsible sourcing balances environmental stewardship with support for local economies and supply chain resilience. We prioritize products that meet credible sustainability standards while strengthening our connections to the communities we serve.
We set a 2025 goal to minimize and optimize packaging for five Alaska-branded inflight food and beverage items. While this goal was not fully met by the end of 2025, we completed two replacements and made meaningful progress toward the remaining three items. Although we identified items to optimize, it was a priority to deplete our existing inventory as part of this transition. Full replacement and transition of these three remaining items are expected to occur by the end of 2026.
We've also set an ambitious 2030 goal to develop and adopt an inflight sustainable sourcing policy that prioritizes products with credible third-party certifications, such as USDA Organic, Fair Trade, FSC and BPI, alongside local sourcing preferences.
Our supply chain management team's approach to risk management and long-term planning ensures that critical materials, aircraft components, fuel and services remain available — even amid global disruptions. A resilient supply chain also supports progress on our climate goals, from securing long-term access to competitively-priced traditional jet fuel and SAF, to enabling ongoing fleet renewal and reducing operational disruptions that can contribute to excess fuel burn and emissions.
Local Sourcing
In 2025, Hawaiian Airlines achieved its goal of sourcing 40% of catering spend for Hawaiʻi departures from local food and beverage products. Hawaiian expanded its use of Hawaiʻi-made products from popular local companies such as Hawaiian Host and Honolulu Cookie Company, while also growing its beverage partnerships through its ongoing collaboration with Mana Up, a business accelerator helping Hawaiʻi retailers grow and scale. Hawaiian features Ko Hana Mai Tai as its signature welcome cocktail in First Class and offers Ko Hana cocktails for purchase in the main cabin. This milestone demonstrates our commitment to supporting local businesses and reducing transportation-related emissions in our supply chain.
In 2025, Hawaiian deepened its commitment to the local economy by investing in the Mana Up Capital II fund, helping more Hawaiʻi companies scale for the global market.
Environmental Affairs
Our integrated environmental affairs team, part of the safety department, ensures safe and responsible operations, works to comply with local, state and federal regulations and focuses on stormwater protection, spill prevention, hazardous waste and aircraft drinking water standards. Underpinning this work is our Environmental Management System (EMS), backed by our Environment Policy & Commitment, which outlines our enterprise-wide environmental management processes and initiatives. The EMS helps integrate environmental considerations into daily operations, track performance and compliance and drive continuous improvement across the organization.
As part of the continuous improvement approach in our Environmental Management System, we focused on four focus areas in 2025.
- Awareness — To increase environmental awareness across the operation, we launched a quarterly newsletter engaging more than 300 environmental coordinators.
- Compliance Gaps — Closely tracked station leadership changes and engaged during transitions to ensure no environmental compliance gaps, resulting in zero regulatory fines or penalties.
- Hazardous Waste — Increased oversight of the hazardous waste inspection program that contributed to an inspection completion rate increase of 36%.
- Spill Prevention — Updated spill preparedness guidance to identify specific equipment and response time targets, which contributed to an overall reduction in significant spills to the environment.
Addressing Illegal Wildlife Trade
We recognize the serious concerns surrounding illegal wildlife trafficking, the trade of endangered species and the risks posed by illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities. To support the protection of at-risk species and ecosystems, we have established a 2030 goal to implement a policy preventing the illegal transport of wildlife and illicit fishing products across all AAG cargo operations. As a first step, we joined United for Wildlife, a global coalition committed to closing the routes used by wildlife traffickers, reflecting our commitment to learning from experts in this space and strengthening our own practices. As we continue to build our understanding, we will adopt and evolve the measures most effective and appropriate for our operations.
